I have considerable experience as an archer, shooting, teaching and running archery ranges. ![]() It boils down to the fact that one must be drawn at the point of firing, and one can be loaded and moved around while loaded and is capable of firing with no additional muscular effort. They are not inherently dangerous.īut they are not appropriate or as safe as bows in an archery setting. I do not argue that a crossbow is more dangerous than a bow if used appropriately and by a trained person. In this context, a loadable and transportable weapon with a trigger is not appropriate. You can really only fire a bow on purpose and with significant muscular effort. We are used to the rhythm of shooting and we are used to talking to one another and generally having a fairly low level of discipline, but one which is proportionate to archery.
